This year’s Swedish Canoe Polo Championship garnered increased media interest as the event was televised live on Swedish TV. Keeping Eva Lindmark of the ICF Canoe Polo Committee very busy, both the men’s and women’s finals were broadcast live, the programme producer claiming that, “Canoe Polo is perfect for TV.”

Not just appearing on TV, the games featured heavily in the press including front page attention on a national Swedish newspaper with a additional coverage inside, a one-hour radio broadcast, a comprehensive report in the biggest evening paper and plenty of local reports. It amounted to the most media coverage the sport of canoeing has received in Sweden for many years.

Of the media success of the games, Greg Smale of the ICF said, “…following the recent success of the World Games it was another good moment for Canoe Polo and steadily we are seeing glimpses of how we want Canoe Polo to be in the future.”

Was it indoor or outdoor ?
TV always said it was much easier to broadcast indoor. And Polo is great for commericial TV. Two 10 min halves with an Ad break.
